Kerrin Messina

About Kerrin

I specialize in helping adults navigate anxiety, depression, grief and loss, life transitions, and the emotional challenges that can arise when life changes unexpectedly. I also have experience supporting individuals as they adjust to life after a traumatic brain injury.

Therapy can be helpful when you feel overwhelmed, disconnected from yourself, or uncertain about how to move forward. You may be coping with a significant loss, adapting to a new stage of life, or finding that familiar strategies are no longer working. My goal is to provide a supportive space where you can better understand your experiences, develop practical coping skills, and create meaningful, sustainable change.

I am a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) in Arizona. I received my master’s degree in Social Work from Boise State University in 2019 and am currently working toward independent licensure. I began my career in hospice, supporting individuals and families throughout the Phoenix Valley. After relocating to Boston, I worked in a hospital setting during the COVID-19 pandemic before transitioning into outpatient private practice. These experiences have shaped my understanding of grief, resilience, medical trauma, caregiving, and the many ways people adapt during periods of profound change.

My Approach

I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) within a trauma-informed approach. Therapy is tailored to your individual needs, experiences, and goals.

Together, we can explore how thoughts, emotions, past experiences, and patterns of behavior may be affecting your current life. We may also work on practical coping skills that can help you manage difficult emotions, respond to stress, and navigate periods of grief, uncertainty, or significant change.

My goal is to help you identify what matters most to you, respond to challenges with greater flexibility, and move toward a life that feels more aligned with your values. By combining deeper understanding with practical skills, therapy can support meaningful, sustainable change.

What to Expect

In sessions with me, you will find a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where you can feel comfortable being yourself and talking openly about what you are experiencing. We will work collaboratively to understand what is bringing you to therapy and identify the changes that feel most important to you.

Therapy may involve making sense of your experiences, recognizing patterns that are no longer working, and developing practical ways to cope and move forward. My role is to support you as you build greater understanding, flexibility, and confidence in navigating the challenges and changes in your life.
